I am in the process of trying to sell my truck. As much as I will miss it at this point I need something more fuel efficient and hopefully to make a little money off of it. Recently I found a 1994 Accord Wagon on Craigslist. (It’s brown!.....sorta) and I am going to take a look at it today. Anything specific to those year model cars I should keep an eye out for? It has pretty low miles, especially for a Honda, so I am not too worried about it and it seems to have been pretty well cared for. If somebody could run the VIN for me once I actually go look at it I would be very grateful as well. So yeah, Brown-ish Wagon. 2/3 isn’t bad.

Well...... 15 minutes before I was supposed to leave to see the car I got an email saying he had just sold it The guy was out of town and I was very prompt about scheduling a time as soon as he got back. Oh well. The search continues........

Look for rust on the rocker panels and the rear wheel arches. Also, examine the paint on the roof and hood closely. If there’s any sign of blistering or peeling, RUN because the car’s just a year or two away from turning into an ugly monstrosity.

They’re more spacious than you’d expect. I was surprised when I bought mine. There’s more room in the driver’s area than there is in my BRZ.

Had a 94 EX coupe. Rather nice car! Couldn't really fault it anywhere except it was a bit underpowered. I'd expect the same from the wagon. It did give me zero troubles though :)

It looks like a good example at a fair price. I had a 97 LX wagon that was unfortunately poorly maintained and wound up with a blown head gasket at 155k. If it was even reasonably maintained it's just getting into middle age. A coworker has an EX coupe with 450k and it's still running strong. CB and CD accords will run forever. Brake jobs can be a pain if you need to do rotors. The wheel bearing has a tendency to cold weld itself to the hub and get stuck sometimes.

I think the main thing to check with used Hondas, depending on mileage/age, is whether or not the timing belt and water pump have been replaced. That’s supposed to be done before 100,000 miles. I had a ’96 Accord from 2000 through 2007 and loved it. Never had any major problems. Loved that car so much I got a ’00 Accord which I just sold after driving for six years. Again, no major problems or complaints. Good luck!

The wagons are better deals than sedans. Exactly the same car but less desirable for some reason. It’s my goto recommendation for people looking for cheap and reliable cars.

I’m actually considering that one.

I had a ‘97 EX sedan that was my aunts from ~80k to 145k miles. It had an evil sounding transmission whine the whole time that never developed into an actual problem. What went wrong in the 6 years I and my younger sister drove it? The distributor leaked oil so we replaced the whole unit (it appears that the bearing wore out, leading to the distributor shaft being loose in the body and allowing oil to piss out - incidentally, it ran fine), an ABS sensor failed, and the exhausted rusted out after four northeastern winters. Also, the clearcoat rubbed off as I washed it, but that’s common on everything Honda made in that era.

When I upgrade to my Focus, I sold the car to a friend. He drove it another 10k miles until a coolant hose failed (the one hose I didn’t replace during my ownership of the car, behind the engine to the firewall), dumping the coolant, he drove on to work instead of pulling over and getting towed. That warped the block and/or head, which wiped out the head gasket.
